Involvement of TGFβ signaling pathway in oxidative stress and diabetic retinopathy
Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of blindness in the U.S. However, not much is known of underlying molecular mechanism and how oxidative stress contributes to its development. In the present study, we investigated the involvement of TGFβ signaling pathway on the effect of oxidative stress on VEGF secretion and viability of retinal cells. VEGF is the hallmark that exacerbates DR progression in prolonged diabetes. Some major concerns that have arisen are the underlying effects of antioxidants in elevating VEGF secretion in diabetes.

The effect of brimonidine tartrate 0.025% on palpebral fissure height: A randomized controlled trial
Upper eyelid height is primarily determined by the actions of the levator palpebrae superioris and Muller’s muscle. Muller’s muscle, a smooth muscle with a predominance of α-1D adrenergic receptors, contracts in response to sympathetic stimulation or adrenergic agonists. Compounds such as apraclonidine, a medication with mixed α and α-1 receptor agonist properties, have been shown to reverse ptosis caused by Horner’s syndrome and botulinum toxin-induced ptosis, and to help assess blepharoptosis preoperatively.

Epidemiology of United States ocular injuries at home in preschool age children from 2000-2019
Injuries to the eye are a common cause of emergency department (ED) visits in the pediatric age group. There were nearly 14 million ED visits for traumatic injuries in children under age 5 in 2017 in the US, and most of these occurred at a private residence [1]. The highest number of pediatric ED visits for ocular injury were reported in children ages 1-5.

High exposure to pollution requires nutritional improvements in children
Sickness rates of children living in regions with extreme environmental pollution resulted in our study evaluating effects of 30-day supplementation with two different food supplements containing nucleotides, amino acids and polypeptides or β-glucan. This study was based on published studies evaluating these effects on children with chronic respiratory problems transported to the region without environmental pollution and into the medical program complemented with climatotherapy, speleotherapy, higher motion activity, rehabilitation, and a special nutritional program.

In 2021, older adults were making up about 13.5% of the global population and projections indicated that by 2030, one in six people would be aged 60 years or more. Recent therapeutic progress to treat achondroplasia in children
Achondroplasia is the most common form of genetically inherited dwarfism. Affected individuals are mainly characterized by severely shortened arms and legs and a large head. In 1878, the term achondrodysplasia was coined by the French physician Joseph Marie Jules Parrot. The term achondroplasia is purely historical and does not explain the cause or manifestations of this disorder.
Intraocular pressure changes after Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy: a retrospective cohort study from ECWA Eye Hospital, Nigeria
Purpose: Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy is an effective treatment for posterior capsule opacification (PCO) but may be associated with postoperative increases in intraocular pressure (IOP), particularly in high-risk patients. This study evaluated the incidence of IOP elevation following Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy, the management strategies used, and clinical outcomes at a tertiary eye hospital in Nigeria. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 162 patients aged 40–80 years who underwent Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy for PCO and completed at least one year of follow-up. Data on demographic characteristics, IOP measurements, visual acuity outcomes, and post-procedure management were extracted from medical records. Changes in IOP and visual acuity before and after the procedure were analyzed, and outcomes were compared between patients with and without pre-existing glaucoma.
Dietary exposure to neurotoxic mycotoxins in Cameroon: Implications for brain development and neurodevelopmental disorders in children
Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are increasingly prevalent in children globally, including Cameroon. Emerging evidence suggests that early-life exposure to environmental neurotoxins, particularly mycotoxins, may disrupt brain development and contribute to these disorders.
