Biography

Dr. Giovannino Silvestri is a Senior Research Associate at the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center, where he works closely with Dr. Maria R. Baer in the Division of Hematologic Malignancies & Experimental Therapeutics. He is also a member of the Cancer Therapeutics Program at the Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center. His research focuses on acute myeloid leukemia (AML), with particular emphasis on FLT3-ITD biology, hypoxia-driven resistance mechanisms, and the development of patient-derived organoid models for precision medicine. Dr. Silvestri has been awarded multiple grants, including an American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant, and serves as co-investigator on VA and NIH-funded projects. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Blood Cancer Discovery, Cancer Research Communications, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. In addition to his research, Dr. Silvestri is an active mentor, journal editor, and reviewer, contributing to the advancement of cancer biology and translational therapeutics.
