During my Ph.D. training at the Stowers Institute, my research centered on adipose tissue development and lipid metabolism in Astyanax populations. I demonstrated that enhanced lipogenesis through Pparγ and accelerated adipose tissue development facilitate cavefish adaptation to food scarcity.
As a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Illinois at Chicago, I expanded my focus to the development and regulation of adipose tissues, with particular attention to the mechanistic basis of metabolic diseases, including obesity and diabetes. My current research investigates the role of cellular populations (endothelial cells, macrophages, and pericytes) within thermogenic adipose tissues and the molecular pathways (e.g., Notch and estrogen signaling pathways) that regulate brown adipose tissue development and metabolism.
My long-term goal is to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate thermogenic adipose tissue function and leverage these insights to develop novel therapeutic strategies for obesity and diabetes.
