Ocular surface squamous neoplasia treated with topical chemotherapy
A man in his 90s presented to clinic with a conjunctival lesion on the right eye noticed two months prior. The patient denied pain but endorsed worsening blurry vision. The patient’s past medical history was significant for skin cancer on the right ear removed 3 years ago, and a history of ocular surface lesion removal on one eye approximately 20 years ago that was negative for any neoplasia. Slit lamp photograph revealed a gelatinous and opalescent lesion suspicious for ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN) and the high-resolution optical coherence tomography (HROCT) cut (arrow)
Modulating the immunotolerant tumor microenvironment to enhance irreversible electroporation ablation therapy
Over the years, several ablation techniques, such as radiofrequency ablation (RFA), microwave ablation, and cryoablation, have been developed and implemented in the treatment of different cancers. Of these ablation technologies, RFA is the most widely used. RFA is a form of thermal ablation that relies on radio waves to produce an electrical current at the tip of an inserted electrode, thus allowing for heat production at the site of the tumor.
Occurrence of cervical spine arthritis highly responsive to adalimumab in a patient with psoriatic peripheral arthritis and longstanding remission while on etanercept therapy
Cervical spine involvement frequently occurs in patients with Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) even in absence of sacroiliitis. Long disease duration, high disease activity in the first five years and presence of peripheral involvement are all predictors of this peculiar articular involvement.
Parkinson’s disease: cell therapy vs. gene therapy
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease, manifesting as a characteristic movement disorder with a number of additional non-motor features. The pathological hallmark of PD is the presence of intra-neuronal aggregates of a-synuclein (Lewy bodies). The movement disorder of PD occurs largely due to loss of dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra, resulting in striatal dopamine depletion.
Efbemalenograstim alfa, a long-acting granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, a novel dimeric G-CSF Fc fusion protein for reducing the risk of febrile neutropenia following chemotherapy
Chemotherapy?induced neutropenia (CIN) can cause life-threatening complications such as febrile neutropenia (FN) or other infections. Patients who develop FN often require prolonged hospitalizations and treatment with broad-spectrum antibiotics.
